Description

Threatened flora are native plants that are specially protected because they are deemed as being under identifiable threat of extinction, are rare, or otherwise in need of special protection, and are listed as such listed by the Minister for Environment under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) has the lead responsibility for protecting and conserving the State’s environment, including threatened flora.  The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) maintains a list of flora which are threatened with extinction (Declared Rare/Threatened Flora). DBCA also maintains lists for flora that may be rare or threatened but for which there are insufficient survey data to accurately determine their status, or are regarded as rare but are not currently threatened (Priority flora).

Information is gathered regarding the locations of populations of threatened flora, this information is entered into Departmental databases to help protect and conserve these species.  For further information on threatened flora data or other threatened species see www.dpaw.wa.gov.au/plants-and-animals/threatened-species-and-communities.

Information from DBCA's databases will show if any threatened flora have been seen in the area, or the likelihood of being present. This information is particularly useful for planning developments or other activities in areas that may otherwise impinge on threatened flora.

Please note that data held on threatened flora may be sensitive, and are only provided for legitimate reasons. The data do not necessarily represent a comprehensive listing of the threatened flora within an area.  Comprehensiveness is dependant on the amount of survey carried out within the specified area. To be certain of the threatened flora within an area, on ground surveys should be undertaken.
